GemPen Premium Diamond Screener
The GemPen® with complementary aids can make it possible for the user to identify sophisticated synthetic gemstones on the go, saving valuable time in the valuation process. The key word here is “on the go” as it is unusual to get reliable results for certain types of synthetic gemstones without sending them to a gemological institute for validation, something that can take weeks.
Gemological equipment such as the GemPen® have become necessary in recent decades because of the large amounts of synthetically manufactured gemstones in circulation that create uncertainty in the valuation process, as synthetic gemstones can be chemically, physically and optically identical to naturally occurring ones.
When testing gemstones with the GemPen, you can determine if a gemstone is a natural, CVD or HTHP stone. The GemPen will also highlight filled inclusions on diamonds, sapphires and rubies.
The light emitted by the filter will provoke a fluorescent light to be emitted by the HTHP/CVD diamond but the natural diamond will remain unchanged. The GemPen Premium includes all the different filters to screen and analyse Diamonds and to give indications on flame-fusion (Verneuil) lab-created blue Sapphires. The LW Filter 4 (in combination with Filter 1) helps the user to distinguishing between a natural fluorescing diamond and a synthetic one. Filters 2 and 3 are used to screen for Heat, Beryllium and other treatments.

These Filters in combination with the Filter 1 offers the professional gemmological user the means to screen Diamonds, Rubies & Sapphires for synthetics and treatments by searching for discrepancies in the fluorescence and phosphorescence for further analysis. Filters 2, 3 and 4 are used in combination with Filter 1 to screen for synthetics and flame-fusion (Verneuil), as well as heat, beryllium, cobalt, glass fillings and most other treatments of Corundum.
The included LW Filter 4 (in combination with Filter 1) helps the user to distinguish between a naturally fluorescing diamond, HPHT or CVD grown synthetic diamond or indications of an HPHT treated natural diamond.
