How to Identify the Correct Watch Hands for Your Watch

Replacing worn, damaged, or missing watch hands can completely transform the appearance of your watch. However, before ordering replacement hands, it's important to identify the correct specifications to ensure they fit your movement and look right on your dial.

The good news is that in most cases we can identify the correct hands if you provide either:

  • The watch movement calibre/reference number, or
  • The hand fitting sizes

You'll also need to tell us:

  • The hand lengths
  • Your preferred colour or finish

If you have a Casio watch, we may be able to supply a genuine replacement part, provided it is still in production. Please refer to this page for details of the information we require to identify the correct part.

Option 1: Tell Us Your Movement Type

The easiest way to identify compatible watch hands is by providing the movement calibre.

Common examples include:

  • ETA 2824-2
  • Miyota 2035
  • Seiko 7S26
  • Ronda 515

For Seiko and Citizen watches, you can let us know the calibre numbers located on the back of the watch using our brand-specific guides.

For other watches, the movement reference is usually printed directly on the movement itself. This may require opening the case back to inspect the movement.

Once we know the movement type, we can often determine the correct hand fitting sizes for the hour, minute, and seconds hands.

We have tried to stock as many hand options as possible for the movements we stock. All options are linked in the product description of each movement. For example, the Miyota 2035 movement will provide you with direct links to all the hands we have available for sizes Hand Ø: Min .70, Hr 1.20, Sec .17.

Option 2: Measure the Hand Fitting Sizes

If you already know the hand fitting sizes, simply provide them when ordering.

Watch hands are specified by the diameter of the holes that fit onto the movement's posts. These measurements are usually given in millimetres and commonly follow this format:

For example: Min. 0.70mm, Hr. 1.20mm

These measurements must be accurate, as even a small difference can prevent the hands from fitting correctly. Professional measuring equipment is usually required.

Measuring Hand Lengths

In addition to the fitting sizes, you'll need to know the required hand lengths. Measure from the centre hole to the tip of the hand.

If you're unsure which watch hands you need, don't worry. Send us your movement details, measurements, or photographs and our team will be happy to help identify a suitable replacement. The more information you can provide, the faster and more accurately we can help find hands that suit your watch.
