How To Identify The Correct Crystal For Your Watch

A scratched, cracked or damaged watch glass can make even the best watch look worn out. Replacing the glass can restore both the appearance and functionality of your watch, helping to protect the dial and hands from dust, moisture and everyday wear.

Before ordering a replacement watch glass, it's important to identify the correct size and style. Providing accurate measurements will help ensure that you receive a glass that fits correctly.

To identify the correct watch glass, we'll need to know:

  • The diameter of the glass
  • The thickness of the glass
  • Whether the glass is flat, single domed or double domed

Please note that we can only supply round watch glasses unless a specific alternative shape is already available on our website.

If you have one of the watches below, please click the links to see the information we require from you:

Measuring The Diameter

The diameter is the width of the watch glass measured from one side to the other.

For the most accurate measurement, we recommend removing the damaged glass from the watch and measuring it using a digital calliper. Measurements should be taken in millimetres (mm).

Watch glasses are often available in increments of 0.1mm, so accuracy is important when selecting a replacement.

If the glass has already been removed or is broken, you may also be able to measure the opening in the watch case where the glass sits.

Measuring The Thickness

The thickness of the glass is equally important, as it affects both the appearance and fit of the watch.

Using a digital calliper, measure the glass from the top surface to the bottom surface at its thickest point.

A glass that is too thick may not fit correctly within the case, while a glass that is too thin may not provide the required clearance for the hands and dial.

Identifying The Glass Profile

Watch glasses are available in several different profiles. The most common are:

  • Flat Glass - has a completely level top surface with no visible curve.
  • Single Domed Glass - has a curved upper surface while the underside remains flat.
  • Double Domed Glass - is curved on both the upper and lower surfaces.
