One of the most common questions we receive is:
"Do you have a replacement crown that will fit my watch?"
The good news is that in many cases we can help. However, to identify the correct crown, we need a few key pieces of information from you. Providing these details when you contact us will help us find a suitable replacement much more quickly and accurately.
If you have a Seiko, Citizen, or Casio watch, we may be able to supply a genuine replacement part, provided it is still in production. Please refer to our brand-specific guides for details of the information we require to identify the correct part.

1. Movement Type or Tap Size
The movement is the mechanism inside your watch. Different movements use different stem thread sizes, often referred to as the tap size.
Examples include:
- VX32
- 2035
- ETA 2824
- Tap 8
- Tap 9
Knowing either the movement calibre or the tap size allows us to identify which crowns will screw onto your existing stem.
How do I find the movement type?
For Seiko and Citizen watches, you can let us the know the calibre information engraved on the back of the watch. For any other models, the watch case will normally need to be opened so you can look at the movement reference that is stamped on the movement itself.
2. Crown Colour
The crown colour refers to the finish of the crown.
Common colours include:
- Silver
- Gold
- Rose Gold
- Black
3. Crown Diameter
The crown diameter is the width of the crown measured across its widest point.
Examples:
- 3.0mm
- 4.0mm
- 4.5mm
- 5.5mm
This measurement is important because a crown that is too small or too large may look incorrect or be difficult to operate.
How do I measure it?
The most accurate method is to use digital callipers. Measure across the top of the crown, from one edge to the opposite edge. If your crown is missing, measure the width of the watch where this would sit.
If you do not have callipers, a ruler can provide an approximate measurement, although callipers are strongly recommended. Measure to the nearest 0.5mm if possible.
4. Crown Type
Not all crowns are designed the same way. We need to know what type of crown your watch uses.
A few common types are:
- Push-In Crown (Standard Crown)
- Screw-Down Crown
- Short Pipe Crown
- Long Pipe Crown
- Waterproof / Dustproof Crown
If you're still unsure, send us a photograph of the crown and watch case and we'll help identify it.
The more information you can provide, the faster and more accurately we can help find a crown that suits your watch.
