Pickling is a common process used in jewellery making to clean and brighten precious metals after soldering. The process involves immersing metal pieces in a pickling solution, typically made from an acid and water, to remove any fire scale or tarnish that may have accumulated during the soldering process.

Traditionally, pickling solutions have been made using strong acids such as sulfuric acid. However, these strong acids can be dangerous to handle and can cause damage to the metal if not used properly. In addition, they can also have an adverse effect on the environment and the user’s health. This is why it is best to use acid-free alternatives for pickling.

Durston Acid-free pickling solutions are formulated to be safe and gentle on the metal, yet still highly effective in removing fire scale and tarnish. They are formulated to be environmentally friendly and are safer to handle than traditional pickling solutions. Additionally, they do not leave any residue on the metal, ensuring that your pieces are left looking their best.

In the jewellery making industry, the use of acid-free pickling solutions has become increasingly popular due to the many benefits they offer. In addition to being safer and more environmentally friendly, they are also easier to use, making them a great choice for both experienced and novice jewellery makers.
