Creating a Satin Finish on Silver & Gold Jewellery

Not every piece of jewellery calls for a mirror shine. A satin or matte finish offers a modern, understated look that can highlight form and contrast beautifully with polished areas. One of the easiest and most reliable ways to achieve this texture is with our range of polishing accessories from Asia Abrasives. Their finishing wheels and pads are designed to deliver consistent, professional results.

Why Choose a Satin Finish?

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Satin finishes give silver and gold a soft brushed look, perfect for contemporary designs.
  • Practicality: It hide small scratches and fingerprints better than high polish, making jewellery more wearable.
  • Contrast: Combining satin with polished areas creates striking visual interest, drawing attention to specific design details.

Applying the Satin Finish

We stock two wheel options for achieving a satin finish on your piece. Both options are made from an abrasive Scotch-brite:

  • Emery Wheels: Mounted on bench motors, these provide quick, even coverage for large surfaces.
  • Miniature Satin Wheels: Perfect for smaller pieces, mounted on mandrels for use with a pendant motor.

Satin finishes work best on surfaces already smoothed to at least a fine emery grade. Coarse wheels produce a bold brushed texture, while fine wheels create a subtle sheen. For a linear brushed look, move consistently across the surface. Cross-hatching can create a more matte effect. Hold the piece firmly but keep it moving across the abrasive to avoid uneven patches.
